چکیده

Emerging Grids will play a significant role in the computational, data, storage, and network requirements of High Energy Physics experiments coming online in the next few years. One such requirement, the bulk transfer of data over advanced high speed optical networks is necessary as such experiments are highly distributed with resources and participants from research laboratories and institutions spanning the globe. This trial at the iGrid 2002 conference attempts to stress the feasibility of high speed bulk data transfer over an end-to-end lightpath, a dedicated point-topoint optical link. Specifically, the objective was to transfer one Terabyte of Monte Carlo data from TRIUMF in Vancouver, Canada to CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. A rate equivalent to transferring a full CD of data every 8 seconds was achieved.

Distributed Wavelength Reservation Method for Fast Lightpath Setup in WDM Networks

A promising approach to the effective utilization of wavelength division multiplexed networks is to transfer data on an on-demand basis using fast wavelength reservation. Data can then be transferred using the assigned wavelength channel. However, if wavelength reservation fails, the lightpath setup delay, which is defined as the time from when the data–transfer request arises at the source nod...

The Canadian Atlas of Child and Youth Injury: Mobilizing Injury Surveillance Data to Launch a National Knowledge Translation Tool

Child and youth injury prevention research in Canada has lagged behind other Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development nations, despite existing surveillance systems and longitudinal data. A critical need to improve access to the available data, as well as need to tailor its display and interpretation, was identified by injury prevention stakeholders involved in research, policy, a...

Integration of Globus Online with the ATLAS PanDA Workload Management System

The PanDA Workload Management System is the basis for distributed production and analysis for the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. In this role, it relies on sophisticated dynamic data movement facilities developed in ATLAS. In certain scenarios, such as small research teams in ATLAS Tier-3 sites and non-ATLAS Virtual Organizations, the overhead of installation and operation of these components mak...

A Global RWA Protocol for WDM networks

In this paper we present the design of a global RWA protocol (GRP) consisting of ‘N’ sector networks, each with a centralized management system (CMS) and sectors acts as a node of a distributed system. As per the connection request it uses centralized or hybrid method (centralized and distributed) to identify the primary and backup lightpaths. In addition an extra backup CMS is maintained to ta...

Internet TraÆc Shaping for IP over WDM Links with Source Output Bu ering or Multiple Parallel Wavelengths

Since the number of wavelengths per ber is growing in an exponential fashion the overow traÆc can be routed through over ow lightpaths, thus providing an ideal network with near-in nite capacity and almost no-bu ering. Such unprecedented bandwidth growth in the network backbone is only limited by the processing speed of the electronic elements. Even though multiple parallel high-speed channels ...
